OBJECTIVES

The overall objective of Wadaagsan Company is to achieve its goal of building a modern seaport that provides port services — including storage, handling, and transfer of goods — as easily and efficiently as possible.

In particular, the company aims to:

  • Implement a modern seaport that meets the import and export needs of people and businesses in the central regions of Somalia and eastern Ethiopia.
  • Develop and expand livestock exports for the benefit of livestock traders and pastoralists across Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
  • Provide an international port that makes it easier for traders to import and export food and other goods such as construction materials, agricultural equipment, and vehicles — helping prevent drought impacts and contributing to national development and economic growth.
  • Facilitate an international hub for container transshipment between Africa and the rest of the world.
  • Contribute to national economic infrastructure, including Garacad Seaport, the Garacad–Galkacyo–Galdogob (3G) road, and the Turdibi customs facility on the Ethiopia–Somalia border.

PROJECT’S DETAILS

  1. The project is implemented in the Garacad area, approximately 240 km from Galkacyo, 303 km from the Ethiopia border (Turdibi customs), 750 km from Mogadishu, 920 km from Bossaso, and 1,400 km from Berbera (coastal distance). Garacad Seaport has a water depth of approximately 8.5M–13M.
  2. The project comprises an international port with 4 berths for large vessels and boats, fuel storage tanks, warehouses, large parking/storage yards for diverse goods, business offices and government facilities, a free trade zone, and a 303 km road linking Garacad Seaport to Turdibi customs.
  3. Garacad Seaport can handle up to 3,500,000 tons per year, covering import service demand at the required scale.
